BMAT AND UKCAT WORKSHOPS

Quick Summary: A bespoke BMAT and UKCAT preparation workshop that took place over 3 days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in collaboration with the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and PrepWorks Malaysia.

Studying medicine is the dream shared by many young individuals. MegaReach is dedicated to helping these dreams come true. The United Kingdom (UK) is one of the many countries that attract medical aspirants from the world over. With the cap on international medical student numbers set to be removed from the 2018 entry onwards, there is an expectation of a steep rise in the number of applicants. While many aspirants meet the academic criteria stipulated by UK medical schools, a significant number fail at the stage of the screening exams (e.g. BMAT and UKCAT). Those who manage to get through that stage then encounter another set of barriers in the form of submitting a meaningful personal statement and performing well at the interview.

MegaReach believes we can improve the odds of student success by training them to approach the entire applications process (i.e. the screening exams, the personal statement and the interview) using a cohesive, compact strategy that will help celebrate their best individual attributes, while identifying remedies for challenging areas.

Two MegaReachers (a medical lecturer and a senior medical student) piloted our first bespoke BMAT and UKCAT preparation workshop over 3 days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in early July 2016, in collaboration with the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and PrepWorks Malaysia. The success of the programme was perhaps evident by the fact that all the participants scored a 10/10 in the final evaluation!

Having refined our programme in response to that pilot workshop, MegaReach has now developed a 1-day compact version and a  5-day extended programme that will help students, busy completing the academic hurdles for UK medical entry, prepare for the screening exams, draft meaningful personal statements and develop effective interview techniques. The stand-alone programmes, delivered by medical qualified professionals and medical students should thereby help students to continue their concentration on academic hurdles (Advanced Levels, International Baccalaureate etc) even as they gain an in-depth understanding of the other equally important hurdles days that stand in the way of entry into medicine!

MegaReach is looking for international collaborators to conduct these programmes across the world. If you are interested in becoming a partner, please write to megareach.org@gmail.com. We will be very happy to travel to any part of the world. We know the aspirants we engage with will one day become avid MegaReachers themselves!
